Hardware Purchasing Recommendations

Many CSAIL groups purchase their own hardware. TIG provides support for group hardware, provided it is a standard configuration which supports Linux. ‘Gaming’ systems, consumer hardware in general, and custom-built PCs fall outside of our support. We offer the following recommendations as alternatives that TIG will support.

Servers

We, or our users, have had luck with the following vendors. This is by no means a complete list of your options:

• Dell

Workstations

A slightly less complete list, simply because there are many more options:

• Colfax
• Lenovo (but NOT Lenovo Legion, or other gaming machines)
• Dell (but NOT Alienware, or other gaming machines)
