Configuring Thunderbird
Configuring Thunderbird
TIG recommends Thunderbird as your desktop email client.
(Last tested on Version 68.11)
Prerequisites
- A supported version of Windows or Mac OS (may also work with recent versions of Ubuntu)
- A CSAIL IMAP Account which will be configured into your mail app
- Knowing your IMAP password
- If needed, download from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/
Instructions
Automatic
Thunderbird should automatically discover our email settings. If it does not, skip to the Manual section below.
- If using Thunderbird for the first time, the “Setup email account will start automatically. If you have already used Thunderbird and need to setup an account “Tools” “Account Settings” and under Account Actions, choose “Add Mail Account”
- At “Setup Up Existing Email Account”:
- Your name: Your full name as you want it to appear on your outgoing messages
- Email address:
$YOU@csail.mit.edu
- Password: Your [CSAIL IMAP password]
- Click “Continue”, then Done
- If prompted to “set defaults”, we recommend making Thunderbird the default client for email.
Manual
