AFS Project Directory
AFS Project Directory
If it’s not a research group and it’s not an individual user, it must be
a project! That’s the basic distinction. Project directories live in
/afs/csail.mit.edu/proj/PROJECTNAME
and are otherwise similar to
group directories except for the following differences:
- Project directories have smaller default quotas (20 GB or smaller).
- Projects’ corresponding protection groups are self-administered and
do not have parallel
-admin
groups. - Project directories use the
http://projects.csail.mit.edu/
Web server.
Many project directories are used primarily for Web hosting for lab-wide
activities that are run by different people from year to year (such as http://projects.csail.mit.edu/gsb/) Some of them are used for infrastructure functions like the
courses.csail.mit.edu
virtual Web server (and indeed the Web server
configuration itself).
The AFS volume for a project is named proj.PROJECTNAME
. As with other
CSAIL AFS volumes, a nightly snapshot is taken and is mounted at
.snapshot
in the top level of the project volume.
