MIT Alert
- Sign up for MIT Alert at http://emergency.mit.edu/mitalert/
Signing up for MIT Alert is the single most important thing you can do for your safety. MIT alert will tell you if any dangerous situation is happening on campus and how to avoid it. In the event of a fire alarm: The Institute policy is to evacuate the building immediately by the nearest exit or enclosed stairway. This includes lobby areas. Not doing so is considered interference with fire fighting operations and violators of this Massachusetts State Law are subject to a fine, imprisonment, or both. The Institute policy is not to fight fires. In the event MIT declares Shelter-In-Place: Remain in your office (or closest open office/room) with the door locked if safely able to do so. Keep windows and window blinds shut. If advised, also cover and duct tape air vents, and turn off all the air handling equipment (heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning) that you can control. Monitor MIT emergency outlets for further direction.
