The Infrastructure Group

The Infrastructure Group (TIG) provides service-oriented computing, communications and operations assistance to support the world-class research underway at CSAIL. On the technical side, TIG handles everything from maintaining and monitoring a complex computing infrastructure 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensuring lab members can access cutting-edge computing services. TIG maintains the lab’s five data centers, handles space accommodations and event logistics. Additionally, TIG actively promotes CSAIL research to the broader MIT community, reputable news organizations and the general public via a full-range of media relations and communications services.

Service Status

GENERAL:

2018.16.11 10:00: The CSAIL network should be back for you now. We have identified the the cause and have made steps to mitigate the issue. The root source is still being identified, however, so there may be some disruptions while we investigate and resolve.

2018.16.11 08:45: CSAIL Wireless is currently down and we are working to resolve this ASAP. Ethernet is working, so you can plug into the wall for now, or try to find MIT wireless if there is a signal strong enough.

Announcements

  • As of July 1, 2018, CSAIL no longer uses client-side web certificates for authentication to web applications and sites. Web certificates will be replaced by CSAIL’s OIDC (OpenID Connect) service. You no longer need to obtain certificates every year or worry about which one(s) you have in your browser. You can also use pretty much all the modern browsers. Please see OpenID Connect at CSAIL for details.

  • TIG will officially end support for CSAIL Ubuntu 12.04 on August 31st, 2018. We urge all users of CSAIL Ubuntu 12.04 to reinstall with Ubuntu 16.04 as soon as possible. Please note that TIG does not support in-place upgrades from any CSAIL Ubuntu version, and full reinstalls should be performed instead. Instructions for installation can be found at CSAIL Ubuntu
  • login.csail.mit.edu keys were last changed: August 20 2018.

If you have older host keys you will receive a warning, “The RSA host key for login.csail.mit.edu has changed…” when attempting to log in.
