Operating Systems Support

If you're setting up a new server (or considering setting up a new server), please see Best practices for setting up and managing new servers. (Some of that information may be relevant to new desktop machines as well.)

By far, the most common operating systems in use at CSAIL are Debian & Ubuntu GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Apple OS X. We provide some level of support for each of these platforms.

See also Public Computing for pre-configured Windows, Mac, and Linux machines available for Lab use.

Other Operating Systems

The contributed instructions below may (or may not!) enable you to use some aspects of CSAIL infrastructure with unsupported operating systems.

MIT IS&T offers a wide range of software, licensing, special software discounts. Browse, find, and download available software from IS&T.
