Laptop Battery Recall Information

Below is a list of affected manufactures links to their respected sites for the recall. These sites will provide you with the information on how to detect if your battery is affected and what do in the case it is.

Affected notebook manufactures include:

Apple - https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/

Dell - http://www.dellbatteryprogram.com

Lenovo (IBM)- http://www.lenovo.com/batteryprogram

Toshiba - http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlView.jsp?soid=1482876

The problem is caused by microscopic metal particles in the recalled cells which could lead to short-circuiting. Sony said a battery pack will simply power off when a cell short circuit occurs. However, under certain rare conditions an internal short circuit may lead to cell overheating, and potentially a fire. This potential can be affected by variations in the system configurations in different notebook computers.
