Hardware Support And Purchasing
Computing Hardware Support
For advice on upgrades and/or new computer purchases please see TIG User Support in 32-276 or
help@csail.mit.edu.
While we can often assist in troubleshooting suspected hardware problems, please be advised that TIG is not a hardware shop and can
under no conditions perform warranty maintenance or replace processors or power supplies.
Accessories
Some cables, parts and accessories, and laptops are available for temporary or permanent loan.
For hardware problems with printers please see TIG Operations in 32-270 or
ops@csail.mit.edu .
Purchasing
We generally recommend making purchases through the
Buying at MIT,? which provides discounts for all purchases and payment without POs for departmental orders. Most computer purchases are made through the GovConnection, Apple, and Dell ECAT stores. Please contact
HQ's Fiscal staff with questions about departmental purchases through ECAT.
If there's any chance that a desktop PC system you're purchasing will run
GNU/Linux during its lifetime, please choose models from Dell's
N Series, which are certified Linux compatible. This will save time, hassle, and wasted money from unused Microsoft licenses. (Even when we do install Windows, we use CSAIL bulk licenses).
