Printing Instructions For Windows
Printing via Windows XP through HTTP PRINTING
Follow the screenshots below for a graphical description of how to install the printer using http (the process is the same whether you use Windows 2000 or XP).
1. Click Start -> Settings and select Printer and Faxes. Click Add Printer.
2. Click Next.
3. Make sure network printer is checked. Click Next .
4. Check connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network
For URL type
http://cups.csail.mit.edu:631/printers/printer_queue
E.g. if you want to print to CABAL type
http://cups.csail.mit.edu:631/printers/cabal. Click next.
5. Select from the list or provide the correct printer driver files location (Using the "have disk" option).
Obtain the correct printer driver from
here
Unzip the driver file. It will create directory e.g. c:\8400w2kps (for Xerox Phaser 8400).
Click have disk and provide the correct path for the driver file .
9. Click Yes/No on whether you want to make this printer as default printer.
10. Click Finish to complete setup.
Other ways to print:
HTTP printing is the recommended way of printing. If above doesn't work you should try LPR printing.
Printing via Windows 2000/ Windows XP through LPR PRINTING
Follow the screenshots below for a graphical description of how to install the service (the process is the same whether you use Windows 2000 or XP).
1. Click Start -> Settings and select Control Panel.
2. Select Add/Remove Programs.
3. Once inside Add/Remove Programs, on the left vertical options menu list, select Add/Remove Windows Components.
4. Scroll down until you see Other Network File and Print Services and ensure it is checked.
5. Then click next and wait for the services to install. You may need Windows XP media which can be borrowed from TIG.
6. Click Finish. This will finish the installation of the client.
Following are the steps for Configuring Printer
1. Click Start -> Printer and Faxes .
2. Click �Add a printer�.
3. Click Next.
4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer."
5. Click on Create a new port. Select Type of port as �LPR Port�
Click next.
6. For Name or Address of server providing lpd type cups.csail.mit.edu
For Name of printer or print queue on that sever type name of print queue( E.g. type "cabal" for TIG area printer).
Click ok.
7. Select from the default list or provide the correct printer driver files location (Using "have disk" option).
Name, location, and drivers for the printers can be obtained from \\afs\csail.mit.edu\group\tig\printers.
Select the correct Printer driver from \\afs\csail.mit.edu\group\tig\printers\Printer drivers\windows.

8. Click �Have disk� and provide the correct path for the driver file .
9. Click Yes/No on whether you want to make this printer as default printer.
10. Click Finish to complete setup.
