How do I install Matlab?
If you're running CSAIL Debian, simply use the .software mechanism to add "matlab" to your enabled applications. If you're running Mac or Windows, you can do one of three things: 1) Download the software for your preferred platform here: https://tig.csail.mit.edu/software/software_title/show/44 2) Get the installation media from afs. You can find the binaries in /afs/csail/group/tig/software/(your_platform)/MathWorks/ 3) Graduate and undergraduate students may go to the MIT Matlab download page and get the installers from there: https://matlab.mit.edu/ -- You'll need MIT web certificates. In cases 2 and 3, you'll need to have the proper license file, which you should obtain by visiting the tig software distribution web site and checking out a copy. Depending upon which platform you're installing to, the installation program will either require you to paste these two lines into a dialog box, or will ask you to browse to the file itself; or, in the case of Linux, will ask you to put the file into the $MATLAB_HOME/etc/ directory manually. N.B. You must be connected to the internet - not necessarily just the CSAIL net - in order to use this concurrent license server; hopefully this won't ever have to change, but at some point might at least require you to use the CSAIL VPN. Please let us know ASAP if you plan to use more than a few seats at a time (like if you have a 50 node cluster that will be running 50 or more seats, since we only have a total of 125 right now for all of CSAIL) or if you will use particular toolboxes heavily and/or rely on them being available at all times; I might need to acquire more.| Standalone Matlab Licenses |

| If you need a "standalone" or non-concurrent license that runs on a non-networked computer, that is a different process. We can get a license for you, but we need to know the platform and all the toolboxes you need, as well as an account number for billing. Standalone licenses are available only for the most recent version of Matlab. Please inspect the attached file for a list of toolboxes available for the non-concurrent license. It takes 3-5 business days from the day we get your request until the license is delivered to you. As directed by IS&T, standalone installations of Matlab cannot be used on equipment that's not owned by MIT: "Mathworks products are restricted to use in connection with on-campus computing facilities that are used solely in support of classroom instruction and research activities of students, teaching faculty and staff, and research staff. The right to use the Programs for any other purposes, including commercial purposes, is expressly prohibited. It is a violation of your license agreement to use this standalone license on more machines than you ordered this license for, or on a machine not owned by MIT. Disclosure of your PLP or License File is a violation of your licenses agreement." |
