Update May 16, 2008
- Please note that the noise associated with the project will be greatly reduced because the sheet pile driving is completed. The obstruction that the contractors encountered was removed and they were able to finish the sheet pile driving.
Adjacent to Stata Center:
- Continue the installation of steel cross bracing at the truck tunnel.
Building 68
- Installation of temporary sewer and drain lines. Drilling and pouring of secant pile wall.
- Drilling and grouting of tiebacks along the west side of sheet pile wall.
- Mass excavation and removal of soil from site
- Please note that many of these activities may cause excessive noise and vibration as well as some dust.
Update May 2, 2008
Work on the Koch Institute project scheduled for the week of May 5 includes:
Adjacent to Stata Center:
- Continued installation of the sheet pile wall. This work will end soon, once the contractors are able to remove the old foundations of the East Garage which are preventing the sheets from being driven to the required depth.
- Installation of steel cross bracing at the truck tunnel.

Update March 7, 2008
- Construction on the Koch Institute/Cancer Research Building will begin during the first week in March.
- Early activities on the site include the installation of a temporary construction fence. The fenced in area will be extended following the closure of the East Parking Lot at the end of March.
- Additional activities that may impact the community include the relocation of bike racks around the entrance to the Stata Center.
- The Main Street entrance and exit to the East Lot will be closed from Wednesday, March 5 at 5:00 PM to Saturday, March 8th at 5:00 PM. From Wednesday evening through Saturday, vehicles must enter and exit from Ames Street. This is a temporary measure and cars will resume using the Main Street entrance by Sunday, March 3.

PARKING
- East Lot to close March 31--In order to allow for the construction of the new cancer research building, MIT will close the East Parking Lot effective March 31, 2008. The Parking Office has notified affected departments and over 200 parking spaces are being relocated.
- Visitor parking will be in the Hayward Surface Parking Lot Link to Parking Office Website
- Reservations for visitor parking will still be accepted via SAPweb. Beginning April 1, Visitor Parking spaces will be in the Hayward Surface Parking Lot. This will result in the need to relocate several Hayward Lot parkers.
- Parking after hours Parkers with an MIT permit will be allowed to park after 2:30 in the following lots: Stata Center, Buildings 44/46 and Hayward Lot. After 5:00 PM, people without an MIT parking permit will be allowed to park in either the Buildings 44/46 Lot or the Hayward Lot.
- There will be no parking in the new building and the East Lot will not reopen. Questions about the changes in parking may be directed to mitparking@mit.edu.
